A few days ago, Liton Das was appointed captain of Bangladesh’s national T20 team. He will lead the side through to the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. Today marks the first tour under Liton’s leadership, as the Tigers head abroad.
Fans are optimistic about Liton’s captaincy, and his former teammate Nasir Hossain shares that sentiment. Speaking to the media, Nasir said, “If Liton plays his natural game, he’ll perform well. Personally, I have high hopes for him. As a player, he still has a lot to offer the national team.”
Nasir also expressed confidence in vice-captain Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, though he emphasized the importance of stability in leadership roles. The former Bangladesh all-rounder hopes Mahedi is given the time to grow into the position.
“Sheikh Mahedi is a very talented player. If they’ve appointed him vice-captain, I hope it’s for the long term—not just for one or two series. A longer tenure would benefit both him and the team,” Nasir added.
Nasir didn’t shy away from criticizing the lack of facilities for Bangladeshi cricketers either. “Even schools in India have better facilities than our national team does,” he remarked. “Bangladesh plays well, but we could play even better with the right support. I hope the team continues to bring pride to the country.”
