ICC Honors Miraz as Monthly Star

by Sports Desk

Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April, thanks to his outstanding all-round performances with both bat and ball. With this recognition, Miraz becomes only the third Bangladeshi cricketer to win the prestigious monthly award from the ICC.

Before Miraz, the last Bangladeshi to receive this honor was Shakib Al Hasan, who won the award in March 2023. The first Bangladeshi ever to claim the ICC Player of the Month title was experienced wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim.

Miraz earned this accolade following his remarkable performances in the home Test series against Zimbabwe. His contributions with both bat and ball led him to the top, and for the first time in his career, he climbed to the No. 2 spot in the ICC Test all-rounder rankings.

The 27-year-old was named Player of the Series, having taken 15 wickets across the two Tests, including three five-wicket hauls. He also scored his second Test century — a brilliant 104 — in the second Test in Chattogram. Bangladesh won that match by an innings and 106 runs, leveling the series 1-1.

Miraz was named Player of the Match in that Chattogram Test and beat out Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani and New Zealand’s Ben Sears to claim the ICC award.

Reacting to the recognition, Miraz said,
“Being named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month is an incredible honor. The ICC awards are a significant recognition for any cricketer, and winning through the votes of fans worldwide makes it even more special for me. Back in 2016, winning the Player of the Tournament in the ICC U-19 World Cup was a huge motivation early in my career — and this award feels just as special.”

He added,
“I’m truly delighted. This award will inspire me to work even harder and bring more success to Bangladesh on the international stage. As cricketers, we dream of performing well and bringing joy to the fans. Recognition from the ICC pushes me to keep striving for excellence and consistency. I’d like to thank my teammates, coaches, and fans — this award belongs to all of them.”
