India’s Pro Kabaddi League is extremely popular and preparations are underway for its 12th season. Ahead of the upcoming player auction, the Indian Kabaddi Federation has officially requested the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation to submit the names of 10 Bangladeshi players for consideration. The letter regarding this request was received by the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation this evening.
Given the currently heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, there is some uncertainty about whether Bangladeshi players will be sent to India at this time. Federation General Secretary SM Nawaz Sohag expressed cautious optimism: “It’s a very positive sign that they’ve asked us for the names of 10 players for the auction. However, we will consider the geopolitical situation and make a decision after discussions with the federation president, the players, and their respective organizations.”
The Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation has been asked to submit the list by May 20. The list will be finalized in consultation with the coaching staff.
“Our catchers and defenders are more in demand than raiders. We’ll consider the advice of the technical panel before finalizing the names,” said the General Secretary.
Players who are selected in the auction will need to stay in India from August 12 through November.
In the last season of the Pro Kabaddi League, Bangladeshi star player Mizanur Rahman participated. It remains to be seen how many players from Bangladesh will be chosen this time. Recently, six Bangladeshi players took part in a franchise kabaddi tournament in Nepal.
