Shakib seeks clearance to play PSL

by Sports Desk

Shakib Al Hasan has secured a team midway through the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL). On Wednesday, it was revealed that he received an offer to play for Lahore Qalandars in the current season. However, no official announcement has been made yet.

On Thursday (15 May), it was confirmed that Shakib has formally requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to participate in the PSL. A source from BCB’s cricket operations confirmed the development. If all goes well, the veteran all-rounder could be seen back in action after a long break.

Rishad Hossain another Bangladeshi player has been with Lahore Qalandars since the start of this season. However, his participation in the resumed phase of the PSL set to restart on May 17 remains uncertain. Due to security concerns and international commitments several foreign players may leave the tournament, opening up opportunities—like this one—for Shakib.

This won’t be Shakib’s first PSL appearance. He made his debut in the league in 2016 for Karachi Kings. Since then, he has also played for Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars.

In total Shakib has featured in 14 PSL matches, scoring 181 runs at an average of 16.36 and a strike rate of 107.14. With the ball he has taken 8 wickets at an economy rate of 7.39.
