Shakib cleared for PSL, Rishad out

by Sports Desk

Shakib Al Hasan has officially been granted permission by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to participate in the entire Pakistan Super League (PSL) season with Lahore Qalandars. Since he is currently not part of the national team setup, the BCB had no objection to his full-time involvement with the franchise.

However, Rishad Hossain, who recently returned to Bangladesh after playing for Lahore Qalandars, will not be rejoining the side. During his earlier stint, Rishad made a comment in an interview with a Bangladeshi news outlet that reportedly displeased the Qalandars’ management.

While describing the tense environment during the recent India-Pakistan conflict, Rishad quoted teammates and said:
“Mitchell (presumably Daryl Mitchell) told me he would never return to Pakistan again. Tom Curran was crying like a child.”

Although Rishad later apologised to the Qalandars management for the unintended remarks, the situation didn’t smooth over. According to sources, Rishad himself informed the franchise that he would not return. Despite the controversy, Rishad remains the best-performing Bangladeshi player in this season’s PSL, having taken 9 wickets in just 5 matches.

Similarly, Nahid Rana’s return to the PSL remains uncertain. He had been playing for Peshawar Zalmi, but like others, his clearance to participate in franchise leagues such as the IPL and PSL depends on fulfilling national team duties first. The BCB continues to assess such cases on a player-by-player basis.
