When will Shakib and Mustafizur’s match be in IPL and PSL?

by Sports Desk

Following a brief suspension due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan both the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Indian Premier League (IPL) are resuming this week. Two of Bangladesh’s star cricketers Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman are set to join their respective teams in the final stages of these two premier T20 tournaments. Both could be seen in action within the week.

Shakib Al Hasan who had been under a long-standing bowling ban has recently passed fitness and skill assessments marking his return to competitive cricket. He has been signed by Lahore Qalandars in the PSL. However, Lahore has only one group-stage match remaining — a do-or-die game against Peshawar Zalmi on May 18 at 9 PM Bangladesh time. A win would see them qualify for the playoffs but a loss would end their campaign. If Lahore fails to progress this may be Shakib’s only appearance in the tournament.

On the other hand Mustafizur Rahman is in the final stretch of the IPL group stage with Delhi Capitals. He has received clearance from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to participate in the team’s remaining three matches. Following Bangladesh’s T20I against the UAE today Mustafizur will travel to India to rejoin his IPL franchise.

He is expected to be available for Delhi’s match against Gujarat Titans on May 18. Delhi will then face Mumbai Indians on May 21 and wrap up the group stage against Punjab Kings on May 24. All three matches begin at 8 PM Bangladesh time. However, Mustafizur’s NOC is valid only until May 24 meaning he will be ineligible for the playoffs unless Delhi requests and receives an extension from the BCB.
