The Bangladesh national cricket team arrived in the United Arab Emirates three days ago for a two-match T20I series. However, two players—Nahid Rana and Rishad Hossain—were forced to wait near the airport due to visa complications. After resolving the issue the duo has finally joined the main squad.
On Friday (16 May) night Rishad and Rana officially linked up with the team. Previously because of their visa issues the two cricketers were staying at a hotel near the airport. With those hurdles now cleared. They have been integrated into the squad and if everything goes as planned could even feature in today’s (Saturday’s) playing XI.
Interestingly Rishad and Rana had transited through Dubai International Airport on their way back from the recently paused Pakistan Super League (PSL). Just days later they returned to the same city—this time to participate in an international series. But this leg of the journey brought its own set of challenges for the two Tigers.
The T20I series between Bangladesh and the UAE kicks off today at the Sharjah International Stadium. Fortunately for Bangladesh, Rishad and Rana have joined the squad in time for the opening match.
Bangladesh has played three T20Is against the UAE and won all of them. While such a record may not seem particularly notable for a full ICC member nation it still offers a positive talking point amid Bangladesh’s recent inconsistent performances. Following a disappointing campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy the Tigers hosted Zimbabwe in a Test series at home where they ended up losing one of the matches.
