Big Ticket Demand for Hamza-Shomit

by Sports Desk

There was a time when even tickets priced at just 50 taka couldn’t fill the football stadiums in Bangladesh. Despite loudspeaker announcements (miking), fan turnout remained disappointing. But everything changed when English-born Bangladeshi footballer Hamza Choudhury chose to represent the red and green of Bangladesh.

Following in Hamza’s footsteps, players like Shamit Som from Canada and Fahmidul Islam from Italy have brought new hope and visibility to Bangladeshi football. Now, from everyday citizens to top officials, everyone is talking about Hamza and the future of football in the country.

The spotlight is now on the Asian Cup qualifier match between Bangladesh and Singapore, scheduled for June 10 at the National Stadium. Football fans across the country are eager to watch Hamza — a former English Premier League player — play live in Dhaka. Many are calling the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) to inquire about ticket availability. The big question on everyone’s mind: When will tickets go on sale?

Due to the overwhelming demand, BFF officials are under immense pressure to ensure fair ticket distribution. They are holding daily meetings to finalize the number of tickets, pricing, and sale strategy. The release date of the tickets will likely be announced within the next one to two days, once the National Sports Council provides the official stadium layout and confirms the seating capacity.

Ticket Pricing and Distribution Strategy

A reliable BFF source has indicated that ticket prices have been almost finalized. The Bangabandhu National Stadium has a total capacity of 22,667 seats, with around 18,300 designated as general gallery (domestic seating).

All general gallery tickets will be sold online. However, tickets for premium seating areas — such as foreign chair, club house, VIP section, hospitality box, and sky view box — will carry a steep price tag:

  • Club House: BDT 2,000–3,000

  • VIP: BDT 3,000–5,000

  • Hospitality Box: BDT 4,000–5,000

  • Sky Box: BDT 2,000–3,000

BFF will not sell tickets for all available seats. About 3,000 to 4,000 tickets will be reserved for complimentary distribution.

To accommodate fans who are elderly, not tech-savvy, or unable to buy online, BFF will offer offline ticket sales through a designated booth at the Federation Building or the stadium itself.

Special Fan Campaign: “Super Sunday” with Robi

To add to the excitement, mobile operator Robi is launching a fan engagement campaign called “Super Sunday” on May 25. Through this campaign, Robi users will get a chance to win VIP tickets to the Bangladesh-Singapore match. The final details — including how to participate and the number of winners — are still being decided.

In line with this campaign, Robi has purchased a portion of the stadium tickets from BFF. An agreement was signed yesterday between Robi Axiata and the Bangladesh Football Federation at Robi’s corporate office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.

With rising star power, growing fan enthusiasm, and corporate backing, Bangladeshi football seems to be stepping into a new era — one where empty stands may soon become a thing of the past.
