The 12th season of the Pro Kabaddi League, India’s premier franchise kabaddi tournament, is set to begin this August. Ahead of the season, the player auction is scheduled for May 31 and June 1. Ten Bangladeshi players have been shortlisted to participate in the auction.
The Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation was asked to submit the final list of ten players by May 20. That list has now been officially sent. The selected players are: Mizanur Rahman, Liton Ali, Arif Rabbani, Russel Hasan, Rajib Ahmed, Roman Hossain, Dipayan Goldar, Monirul Chowdhury, Al Amin, and Shah Mohammed Shahan.
Speaking on the matter, Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation General Secretary Nawaz Sohag said, “There were many challenges after the new committee took charge. Initially, six players were sent to the Nepal Kabaddi League. Now, ten players have been selected and nominated for the Pro Kabaddi League. Among them, three players with recent competitive experience will likely be given priority—Mizan, Liton, and Arif.”
This year, after Iran, the highest number of player nominations for the auction came from Bangladesh. There is also a strong possibility that multiple Bangladeshi players will be picked by different franchises. Nawaz Sohag added, “If more of our players get the opportunity to play in the Pro Kabaddi League, it will be a huge boost for kabaddi in Bangladesh. Sharing camps and training sessions with international teams will allow them to learn and grow significantly.”
