UAE Reduces Bangladesh to Zimbabwe Level

by Sports Desk

Bangladesh has a history of losing to ICC associate nations such as Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Canada, the United States, and Scotland. Now, they’ve added another name to that list—losing a T20I match to the United Arab Emirates. With the series currently level, a defeat in today’s final T20I on Wednesday would mean Bangladesh concedes the series.

The situation is already concerning, but the statistics paint an even more embarrassing picture.

On Monday in Sharjah, the UAE chased down a daunting target of 206 to defeat Bangladesh in the second T20I of the series. With this result, Bangladesh has now lost nine international matches to ICC associate teams—more than any other Test-playing nation.

In fact, Italy has a better T20I record than Bangladesh in some respects.

Among the full-member teams, only Zimbabwe shares this unwanted record, also having lost nine times to associate nations. Ireland follows with seven losses, England with five, and West Indies with four. Sri Lanka, India, and Pakistan have each suffered two defeats against associate teams. Meanwhile, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Afghanistan have each been upset just once by an associate side.
