For the first time in history, Bangladesh lost a series against the United Arab Emirates. On Wednesday, Liton Das’s side suffered a heavy 7-wicket defeat in the final T20 match. Batting first, the Bangladeshi batters failed to put up a big total. Their 162-run target ultimately wasn’t enough to challenge the UAE.
After the match, Liton said, “Obviously, we weren’t good enough. Whenever you come to play a series, you come with the intention to win. But this is part of life. When you play cricket, sometimes the opposition will play really well. So, credit must be given to them (UAE) too.”
Liton highlighted the batting unit’s failure as a key issue: “We made some mistakes with the bat. I think we didn’t get the kind of runs we wanted, especially considering the pitch and conditions over the three matches. Dew also became a factor while bowling later on.”
Despite the loss, Liton pointed out a few positives from the series: “Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan Tamim were definitely positives. In some matches, Zakir (Ali Anik) and Towhid Hridoy also scored runs. A few bowlers did well in the middle overs. But we still have a lot to learn and need to apply those learnings in matches.”
Speaking about the UAE team, Liton said, “They played really well today. Their early bowling didn’t let us score freely. Dew may have helped their batting a bit, but full credit to them. No matter who was batting for them, no one looked panicked.”
