Mustafizur Rahman, who had been in excellent form for Delhi Capitals in the IPL, was expected to play a key role for Bangladesh in the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan. However, those hopes were dashed after the left-arm pacer was ruled out due to injury.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the news on Sunday (May 25) through an official press release. Mustafizur sustained an injury to his left thumb during his last IPL match for Delhi Capitals. Medical tests revealed a fracture, which will keep him out of action for at least two weeks.
Bangladesh national team physio, Delowar Hossain, stated: “Mustafizur suffered an injury during his IPL game yesterday. Scans confirmed a fracture in his left thumb. He will need rest and rehabilitation, and we expect him to be out for two to three weeks.”
In Mustafizur’s absence, right-arm pacer Khaled Ahmed has been called up to the squad. The 32-year-old is yet to make his T20I debut for Bangladesh but is a seasoned campaigner in domestic cricket, having taken 94 wickets in 74 recognized T20 matches so far.
