Barcelona maintained their flawless start to the La Liga season on Saturday, recording their sixth straight victory with a convincing 3-0 win over Getafe at the Camp Nou. The Catalan side now leads the table with a five-point advantage over second-placed Atletico Madrid, who earlier defeated Alaves 2-1. Furthermore, they hold a nine-point cushion over fourth-placed Real Madrid, heading into the latter’s upcoming fixture against Villarreal.
Anthony Gordon, who has been a standout performer since his arrival this season, netted his first goal for the club just two minutes into the match. The English winger navigated past three defenders before scoring with a low, deflected strike, building on the strong form he recently displayed during Nations League play for England. Despite missing top scorer Raphinha due to a hamstring injury sustained while on international duty with Brazil, manager Hansi Flick’s side remained dominant.
Gabriel Jesus, stepping into the lineup to replace Raphinha, doubled the lead for the league leaders half an hour into the contest. The opportunity arose after Getafe defender Zaid Romero committed a costly error, inadvertently passing the ball directly to the former Arsenal striker, who calmly slotted his finish into the bottom corner. And his side came roaring out of the blocks, flick replaced him with former Arsenal striker and Selecao compatriot Jesus.
Jules Kounde completed the scoring in the second half, converting a cross from teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. This appearance marked a milestone for Kounde, who surpassed Eric Abidal to set a new record of 194 appearances for Barcelona by a French player. Throughout the match, Barca’s control was evident, with Eric Garcia forcing a notable save from Getafe goalkeeper David Soria from long range, and Soria also denying Dani Olmo later in the game.
The victory extends Barcelona’s impressive run to nine consecutive wins across all competitions, including their recent success in the Champions League opener. Under Flick’s leadership, the team continues to demonstrate significant depth and tactical consistency despite the absence of key attacking personnel.
