The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced the national women’s squad set to compete in the upcoming ICC Emerging Nations Trophy. The selection marks the return of off-spinner Jannatul Ferdous Sumona and opening batter Sathi Rani to the international setup after significant absences from the side.
Jannatul Ferdous Sumona makes her return after 22 months, having last appeared for the national team in a T20I against Ireland in December 2024. Similarly, opening batter Sathi Rani is back in the fold after nearly two years, with her previous T20I appearance dating back to October 2024 against South Africa.
The tournament will witness a leadership shift as Nahida Akter takes charge as the new captain, following Nigar Sultana Joty’s decision to step down from the T20I leadership after the Asian Games. Despite relinquishing the captaincy, Nigar remains a core part of the squad. Meanwhile, key pacer Marufa Akter has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to an injury, which also makes her availability for the upcoming December tour of New Zealand uncertain.
The competition, which features 10 teams divided into two groups, is scheduled to take place in Ajman, United Arab Emirates, from November 12 to November 25. Bangladesh has been placed in Group B alongside Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Thailand, and the Netherlands. The Tigers will commence their campaign on November 12 with a match against Pakistan. Following the group stage, the top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Sixes, from which the two best-performing sides will compete in the final.
The complete squad includes: Nahida Akter (captain), Sobhana Mostary, Nigar Sultana Joty, Sharmin Akter Supta, Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Dilara Akter, Rabeya Khan, Disha Biswas, Fariha Islam Trishna, Fahima Khatun, Juwairiya Ferdous, Jannatul Ferdous Sumona, Sanjida Akter Meghla, and Sathi Rani.
