BCB Vows Immediate Action on Tournament Accommodation Complaints

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has launched the inaugural Second Eleven Championship as part of the National Cricket League, featuring eight teams that began play on Wednesday. However, the tournament has faced early criticism regarding the accommodation provided for players. With all matches concentrated in Dhaka, the BCB opted to house participants at the sports residential complex at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Observations at the facility revealed significant sanitation issues, including standing water, accumulated waste, and inadequate cleanliness in player rooms and bedding, raising concerns about the suitability of the living environment.

Addressing these complaints on Wednesday, Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, chairman of the BCB tournament committee, took responsibility for the lapses. He stated that the board immediately initiated corrective measures upon learning of the issues on Tuesday. Alamgir emphasized that the board is committed to strengthening the structure of domestic cricket and is taking full accountability for resolving these infrastructure hurdles rather than ignoring them or accepting poor standards.

The tournament marks a significant shift in domestic scheduling, as this is the first time Bangladesh has hosted two concurrent long-format cricket competitions. Alamgir acknowledged that such a massive logistical undertaking naturally presents challenges, particularly concerning venue availability and specialized player housing. He noted that the board is actively working to identify and rectify these shortcomings to ensure a smoother experience for the athletes involved.

BCB President Tamim Iqbal is personally involved in oversight, having held discussions on the matter to ensure a swift resolution. Alamgir confirmed that the board held a Zoom meeting with the logistics and relevant departments to address the housing crisis. These departments have been working since Tuesday to improve conditions, and the board anticipates that the issues at the sports complex will be fully resolved within the day. The tournament committee remains dedicated to providing better accommodations as the championship continues.
