Coach Sarwar Imran Blames Off-Field Noise for Defeat

Following the Bangladesh women’s cricket team’s defeat to Pakistan at the Asian Games, head coach Sarwar Imran pointed to off-field negative discussions and mental pressure as key factors behind their set-backs. Speaking to reporters after the match, Imran explained that speculation surrounding the future of the coach and captain during an ongoing tournament inevitably disrupts the players’ mindset.

According to the head coach, the squad’s troubles originated during the Asia Cup. He noted that after losing a closely fought match against Sri Lanka, a wave of negative news began circulating, the impact of which the team is still carrying today. While acknowledging it as no excuse, Imran suggested that such continuous negative coverage inevitably takes a toll on the squad’s focus and psychological well-being.

Addressing performance issues on the pitch, Imran highlighted significant shortcomings in power-hitting compared to rival teams. He observed that while opposing sides effortlessly hit sixes, Bangladesh players are failing to do so, with even previously aggressive batters currently struggling to clear the ropes. To overcome this slump, he stressed the need for a psychological boost, though he admitted that efforts to properly motivate the squad are currently falling short.

Elaborating on the off-field distractions, Imran questioned how a team could be expected to perform when rumours were spreading mid-tournament that he or other key figures would be removed. Despite these external pressures, the coach clarified that there are no major internal conflicts within the squad, confirming that team bonding remains intact and that the criticism primarily impacts individuals on a personal level.
