The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had appointed five mentors for its domestic tournaments with former captain Shoaib Malik being one of them. However, Malik stepped down from the role two weeks ago.
He will now only continue with other contractual duties. Explaining his decision, Malik said, “It wasn’t an easy decision to make. After reflecting on my responsibilities, I realized that managing so many roles at once would prevent me from giving my best—to Pakistan cricket, and to my other professional and personal priorities. To ensure fairness to all parties involved, I believe this is the right time to step aside. It has been an incredible experience working with some of Pakistan’s most talented cricketers—something I’ll always cherish.”
All five mentors had been appointed on contracts running through 2027. Apart from Malik the other four are Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Waqar Younis. Their appointments in August last year stirred controversy at the time.
