Sri Lanka has added another name to its coaching setup, appointing Tim Boon as the batting coach on a one-month contract. The former English cricketer officially began working with players on May 8, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board confirmed.
Although Boon never played for the England national team, he was a consistent performer in domestic cricket. A right-handed batter who could also bowl medium pace, Boon featured in 248 first-class matches, scoring 11,821 runs, and accumulated 3,602 runs in 173 List A games.
While he lacked international playing experience, Boon has previously worked with England’s national side in other capacities. Notably, he served as an analyst for England’s 2005 Ashes-winning team under Duncan Fletcher. He has also coached England’s Under-19 team and held the position of head coach at Leicestershire.
During his short-term stint in Sri Lanka, Boon will work not only with the men’s national team, but also with the women’s team, the A team, the men’s emerging squad, and the Under-17 team.
According to Sri Lanka Cricket’s statement, Boon will focus on technical and tactical batting sessions, aiming to improve both overall team performance and individual player development across all levels.
