Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has been officially sanctioned by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) following a disciplinary investigation. The 41-year-old forward faces a 30-day suspension and a fine of 255 euros (approximately 35,300 taka) after choosing to leave the national team training camp amid a heated disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus.

The FPF Disciplinary Council issued a formal statement confirming that the action was taken due to a deliberate violation of the national team’s code of conduct. The conflict originated earlier this month during the lead-up to a Nations League fixture, where Ronaldo expressed significant frustration after being relegated to the bench against Norway, claiming that coach Jorge Jesus had failed to uphold specific agreements regarding his playing time. This resentment eventually led the star player to depart from the team camp in Copenhagen just before the match against Denmark.

In the aftermath, Ronaldo publicly apologized for his conduct, including his failure to acknowledge fans after the Norway match and his decision to abandon his teammates. He expressed his readiness to accept any penalties imposed by the federation and reiterated his desire to return to international duty. Both coach Jorge Jesus and FPF President Pedro Proença have since indicated that the path remains open for Ronaldo’s return once the suspension period and associated legal formalities are concluded.

The 30-day suspension was backdated to take effect from September 30. Having commenced on the night of the Denmark match on October 1, the disciplinary period is already 19 days into its term. Portugal is scheduled to face Denmark again on November 14, and Ronaldo’s sanction will officially expire two weeks before that match, clearing his path to return to the squad.
