Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall delivered a resounding statement on Friday night, producing a standout performance for Everton just hours after learning he had been omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad. Despite being considered a strong contender for the Nations League fixtures, the 28-year-old was left out in favor of Borussia Dortmund teenager Jobe Bellingham, a decision the midfielder admitted left him disappointed. Though, Dewsbury-Hall had every reason to smile, by the end of the night.
However, the disappointment proved to be short-lived as Dewsbury-Hall helped spearhead a 3-1 comeback victory over Coventry City at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. His thunderous strike served as the catalyst for the win, lifting Everton to fifth in the Premier League table and marking back-to-back league victories for the club.
Reflecting on the international snub, Dewsbury-Hall told Sky Sports that while it was a tough morning, he remained determined to earn his place in the future. He emphasized that he would continue to work hard and perform at a high level, noting that his dream of representing his country remains a primary motivation. It was a disappointing morning, I’m not going to lie. It’s a massive dream of mine to play for my country. [I’m] sad, yeah, but really proud of myself and how I have reacted. Because I’m never going to give up, all I can keep doing is putting in good performances and hopefully one day I get the nod. The wait until the next international break in March will undoubtedly feel like an eternity for Dewsbury-Hall. I’ve got the mentality,” added Dewsbury-Hall. “I’ll keep pushing and pushing and see what happens.
The midfielder has enjoyed a significant resurgence since moving to Everton from Chelsea in August 2025.
After a challenging spell at Stamford Bridge, where he struggled for regular minutes, he has found a consistent role under the current setup.
Since the start of last season, he has recorded 11 goals and seven assists in the Premier League, crediting his success to a versatile role that allows him the freedom to influence the pitch dynamically.
He is no stranger to persistence; his path to the top included loan stints at Luton Town and Blackpool before breaking through at his boyhood club, Leicester City, at age 22. Having played under Enzo Maresca during their Championship-winning campaign, he has consistently displayed the resilience required to overcome professional setbacks. Having spent previous seasons gaining valuable experience out on loan in the English Football League with Luton Town and Blackpool, he did not make his Premier League debut for boyhood club Leicester City until the age of 22. It came during a turbulent period for the club, which ultimately ended in relegation from the Premier League at the end of the following season, even when his opportunity to establish himself in the Foxes’ first team finally arrived.
The victory was also highlighted by the impressive form of Thierno Barry, who netted two goals in five minutes early in the second half. The 24-year-old forward has now reached 10 goals for the season across all competitions, a tally surpassed only by Erling Haaland among Premier League players. Barry, who struggled for confidence after his transfer from Villarreal last summer, is currently using videos of Haaland to refine his own game. At the age of 26, that he appeared to have finally found the right environment to reignite his career and showcase the qualities that made him once such a highly regarde, it was only after his move to Everton last summer. Barry draws inspiration from TikTok and Haaland. The 24-year-old – who struggled for both form and confidence after joining the Blues from Spanish side Villarreal last summer – has already surpassed the eight goals he scored last season, by taking his tally for the season into double figures across all competitions. In fact, only Erling Haaland, with 14 goals, has scored more in all competitions than Barry’s 10 this campaign for David Moyes’ side. According to i’m very happy because I’m a fan of him,”, Barry. “I watch a lot of videos of him and try and do the things he does. Watching it all, my son David has gone everywhere and my father has lived it with us as well.
Adding a touch of flair to the evening, Barry celebrated his goals with a viral dance move inspired by an NFL player he saw on social media, continuing his habit of creative goal celebrations.
Beyond the match performance, the night marked a personal milestone for manager David Moyes, who equaled Harry Catterick’s record of 592 matches in charge of the Toffees. Pre-match, post-match and topical Toffees content.
Catterick previously held the record from 1961 to 1973.
Expressing pride in the achievement, Moyes noted his long-standing commitment to doing the right thing for the club, highlighting the deep personal connection he and his family have maintained with Everton throughout his tenure.
