Summit Magic Rolls On in Canadian League

by Sports Desk

Just a week after being named in the Canadian Premier League’s Team of the Week for his stellar performance, Bangladesh’s Samit Som continued his impressive run. His club, Cavalry FC, which had a shaky start to the season, now appears to be back on track, registering their second consecutive league win.

Facing second-placed Halifax Wanderers FC, Cavalry pulled off a commanding 3-0 victory, with Samit playing the role of a true puppet master. Although he didn’t score, he provided a crucial assist and dominated the midfield with his intelligent play and composure.

His assist came in the 84th minute, when he received the ball in midfield and charged forward into the opposition’s defensive zone. Near the box, he delivered a precise pass to teammate Ali Musse, the Somali striker who had been a constant threat throughout the match. Musse finished calmly to score Cavalry’s final goal of the game.

Earlier, Tobias Warschewski had put Cavalry ahead in the first half from a penalty won by none other than Ali Musse. Musse then scored again in the 83rd minute, just a minute before his second goal—assisted by Samit—put the final nail in Halifax’s coffin.

It was a statement win for Cavalry FC, and Samit Som’s influence in midfield continues to grow with each passing game. His creative spark and tactical awareness are proving vital in Cavalry’s resurgence in the Canadian league.

While Ali Musse was officially named Man of the Match in Cavalry FC’s emphatic 3–0 victory away at Halifax Wanderers, the true orchestrator throughout the 90 minutes seemed to be Samit Som. The 27-year-old Bangladeshi midfielder was at the heart of everything for Cavalry, showcasing not only his creativity but also his defensive prowess.

Samit played the full 90 minutes with an impressive 89% passing accuracy. He registered one assist, created two big chances, and operated in a deep-lying double pivot role, yet still managed to deliver five passes into the opposition’s final third. He also completed 100% of his crosses, further underlining his impact in attack.

Defensively, Samit was just as influential. He won five ground duels, made four tackles, one interception, and also won an aerial duel—proving crucial in keeping Halifax at bay. For the second consecutive week, the Bangladeshi midfielder asserted his control over the midfield, making a strong case for being one of the league’s standout performers.

Following this win, Cavalry FC climbs to fourth place in the table with 7 points from 5 matches. Halifax Wanderers remain in second with 11 points from 6 matches, while Atlético Ottawa tops the table with 16 points from 6 games.
