Liverpool stormed ahead with a dominant first-half performance, going 2-0 up, but failed to hold on to the lead. Arsenal mounted an impressive comeback to claim a valuable point in a thrilling Premier League clash.

The match, held at Anfield on Sunday (May 11), ended in a 2-2 draw. Arsenal finished the game with 10 men, yet managed to secure the result. Interestingly, the first meeting between these two sides this season at the Emirates Stadium also ended with the same scoreline.

Already crowned champions, Liverpool now sit on 83 points after 36 matches. Arsenal remain second with 68 points. With this result, Mikel Arteta’s team has boosted their chances of securing a top-five finish and qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Cody Gakpo opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 20th minute, followed immediately by Luis Díaz doubling the lead in the 21st. Arsenal responded strongly in the second half. Gabriel Martinelli pulled one back in the 47th minute, and Mikel Merino equalized in the 70th.

However, Arsenal were reduced to 10 men in the 79th minute when Merino received his second yellow card. In stoppage time, Andy Robertson found the net for Liverpool, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul in the build-up.

In another match of the day, Newcastle United beat Chelsea 2-0, moving up to third place with 66 points from 36 games. Manchester City are fourth with 65 points, followed by Chelsea in fifth with 63. Aston Villa are in sixth place with the same number of points but behind on goal difference. Nottingham Forest sit seventh with 62 points.

This season, the top five teams in the Premier League will qualify for next season’s Champions League.
