Real Madrid suffered a 4-3 defeat to arch-rivals Barcelona in the final El Clasico of the season. Adding to their woes, star forward Vinícius Junior and defender Lucas Vazquez picked up injuries during the match.
On Monday (May 12), the club released an official statement confirming that Vinícius has suffered an ankle sprain, while Vazquez has sustained a thigh injury.
According to Spanish media reports, neither player is expected to return before the FIFA Club World Cup.
The injury list continues to grow for Los Blancos, who are already without several key players. Defenders Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy, and Antonio Rudiger, along with midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, are all sidelined due to injury. Additionally, French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is unavailable due to suspension.
Real Madrid are set to face Mallorca in La Liga this Wednesday, but head coach Carlo Ancelotti will be without nine first-team players due to injuries and suspension.
Following the defeat to Barcelona, Real Madrid now trail the league leaders by seven points with just three matches remaining. Hansi Flick’s Barcelona needs only two more points to clinch the La Liga title.
