Brazilian World Cup-winning footballer Lucio has been involved in a fire accident. The legendary defender suffered the incident last Thursday (May 15) at his home. He was immediately hospitalized in serious condition at a medical facility in Brasília. The 47-year-old former player is currently in the ICU, fighting for his life.
According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, various parts of Lucio’s body sustained burns in the accident. He is being kept under special observation, and doctors are monitoring him around the clock. The hospital released a statement confirming that Lucio is conscious and in stable condition.
The media further reported that the accident occurred at Lucio’s own residence, though the exact cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
Lucio made his debut for Brazil in 2000 and went on to play 105 matches for the Seleçao until 2011, scoring 4 goals as a defender. He was a key member of Brazil’s last World Cup-winning squad in 2002 and also helped the team win two FIFA Confederations Cups.
