Where Will Martinez Go After Villa?

by Sports Desk

Emiliano Martinez is set to leave Aston Villa and signs of his departure became quite evident during the club’s final home match of the season. The Argentine World Cup-winning goalkeeper bid farewell to Villa Park in tears confirming that he will be parting ways with the Birmingham-based club after five successful years. A two-time FIFA Best Goalkeeper award winner Martinez’s time at Villa seems to have come to an emotional end.

But where will Martinez go next? That question remains unanswered as neither the English nor Argentine media have provided any definitive reports about his future destination.

According to Argentine outlets such as Ole DSports Radio and journalist Fernando Czyz Martinez has received major offers from both Barcelona and Manchester United. However, the credibility and seriousness of these offers are still unclear.

TYC Sports journalist Gaston Edul recently reported that several clubs from the Saudi Pro League are also interested in signing Martinez. Nevertheless the Argentine keeper has reportedly turned down those offers, as he is still eager to compete at the highest level of European football. Sources close to Martinez indicate that he and his family are happy living in Birmingham, suggesting that a move outside Europe is not in his immediate plans.

Edul also noted that two major clubs are leading the race to sign Martínez. A day later, DSports claimed those two clubs are indeed Barcelona and Manchester United. Yet Barcelona already have their regular goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen who has recently returned from injury, and they also saw strong performances from Wojciech Szczęsny this season.

On the other hand, Manchester United despite going unbeaten in the Europa League endured a disappointing domestic campaign including a humiliating run of eight consecutive home losses. Whether they are planning a goalkeeping change for next season—considering Andre Onana is currently their first-choice keeper—remains uncertain.

For now Emiliano Martinez is actively seeking a new club. But the mystery surrounding his next move is far from over.
