Carlo Ancelotti secured a win in his final match managing Real Madrid on Spanish soil as the team defeated Real Sociedad 2-0.
This match also marked the last home appearance of Luka Modric for Real Madrid. Ancelotti bid farewell to the club alongside Modric, who will leave Real Madrid after the upcoming Club World Cup.
Modric received a guard of honor as he was substituted off the field. Reflecting on the moment, he said, “I never wanted this moment to come, but it has been a long and wonderful journey. First, I want to thank the club, President Florentino Pérez, all the coaches and teammates who have supported me, and everyone who has helped me.”
He continued, “Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Thank you to my family. We have won many titles and shared unforgettable moments. You have given me so much love over these years, and I have no words to express my gratitude. One phrase I want to share with you is: ‘Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.’”
Carlo Ancelotti, the most successful coach in Real Madrid’s 123-year history, said, “I am very happy and proud. It has been an extraordinary time here. Nothing that happened during this period will ever be forgotten. I leave with pride knowing I coached an incredible club for a long time, embraced by the love of the people. Real Madrid feels like home to me, like family. That’s how it has been for six years. Our time was extraordinary because of the trophies and the atmosphere.”
The 65-year-old coach, who is set to take over the Brazil national team, added, “There has always been great communication between the club, the players, and me. I had fantastic players, and Real Madrid will always have outstanding players. I leave with great satisfaction. It has been an honor and a joy to be part of this family, to make history and be part of it. That was my goal from day one, and I’m proud to have achieved it.”
