Max Dowman Makes History with Stunning Solo Goal for England

Arsenal starlet Max Dowman continued to turn heads with a record-breaking display for England’s Under-17 team, despite the Young Lions suffering an early exit from the European Championships.

Neil Ryan’s side defeated Czechia 4-2 in their final Group B match, but a late goal saw them slip to third behind Belgium and Italy on goal difference, ending their tournament hopes. Even so, it was Dowman who stole the spotlight.

The 15-year-old opened the scoring in spectacular fashion just five minutes in. Collecting the ball near the corner flag, he appeared to pose little threat before a sharp chop onto his left foot left his marker flat-footed. With calm precision, he fired past the goalkeeper at the near post.

At just 15 years, 4 months, and 26 days old, Dowman became the youngest goalscorer in European Under-17 Championship history.

His brilliance didn’t stop there. In the 15th minute, Dowman showcased his elite vision, dropping deep to receive the ball before threading a perfectly weighted pass inside Czechia’s right-back. The assist sent Alejandro Rodriguez through on goal, and the Lyon striker made no mistake.

Arsenal supporters are already well aware of Dowman’s potential, having closely followed his rapid rise through the club’s youth ranks. He has trained regularly with the first team and was included in the midseason warm-weather training camp in Dubai.

Manager Mikel Arteta considered handing Dowman his senior debut during an injury crisis earlier this year, but Premier League regulations prevented the move. Nonetheless, the teenager could soon join teammate Ethan Nwaneri—currently the league’s youngest-ever player—in making history.

“Max will likely be involved in pre-season,” Arteta said following Arsenal’s final league match. “He’s currently competing in a tournament and will need some rest afterward, but we’ll bring up more academy players to join the first team—and hopefully enjoy another wonderful surprise.”
