After a remarkable treble-winning season, Barcelona have secured the future of rising star Lamine Yamal by signing him to a new six-year contract. On Tuesday, the 17-year-old Spanish winger officially put pen to paper on the new deal in the presence of club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco.
Yamal’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of the 2025–26 season. However, under the new agreement, the La Masia prodigy will remain at the Catalan club until 2031. The deal includes a salary of €15 million per year (approximately BDT 1.88 billion) and an eye-watering release clause of €1 billion.
Yamal made his debut for Barcelona in 2023 at just 15 years old and quickly established himself as a first-team regular with dazzling performances. Under coach Hansi Flick this past season, he played 55 matches, scoring 18 goals and providing 25 assists. His brilliance helped lead Barcelona to a historic treble, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.
Following the contract renewal, the club released a statement:
“This agreement reflects the strength of Barça’s project and vision for the future. The way the boy from Mataró has burst onto the global football scene is truly unprecedented.”
So far, Yamal has made 115 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 25 goals. He holds the record as the youngest scorer in La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup history, and is also the youngest player in Barça’s history to reach 100 matches.
Yamal has made a significant impact on the international stage as well, earning 19 caps for Spain. He was a key member of the team that won Euro 2024, where Spain defeated England 2–1 in the final.
Many see glimpses of Lionel Messi in Yamal’s style of play — fitting, given that both emerged from Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy.
In addition to securing Yamal’s future, the club has also extended contracts for head coach Hansi Flick and Brazilian forward Raphinha, signaling a clear vision as they shape the next chapter of their project.
