Manchester City maintained their perfect record in the Premier League, securing a 3-2 victory against Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. This seventh consecutive win of the season marked a historic milestone for manager Enzo Maresca, who became the first coach in the league’s history to win his first seven matches in charge of a club.
City’s relentless attacking style paid off early, with Phil Foden opening the scoring in the 19th minute following a pass from Jeremy Doku. Although Daizen Maeda equalized for Ipswich just two minutes later, City regained control before the interval. In the 34th minute, Erling Haaland headed home from a Mateo Kovacic cross to restore the lead. The Norwegian striker added his second goal in the 69th minute, calmly converting an assist from Iliman Ndiaye to extend the host’s advantage.
The match concluded with late drama after Haaland’s attempt at a hat-trick was ruled out due to an offside decision. Ipswich sparked a potential comeback in the 88th minute when Zian Flemming successfully scored from a penalty kick, but City managed to hold on to their narrow lead until the final whistle.
Beyond the scoreline, Haaland reached a significant personal milestone by scoring his 100th Premier League goal—excluding penalties—in just 139 matches, setting a new record as the fastest player to reach this century mark in the history of the competition. However, concerns regarding the striker’s health emerged after the game, as he was seen leaving the pitch with a noticeable limp.
