CF Pachuca have parted ways with head coach Guillermo Almada just weeks before their Club World Cup campaign begins, the Mexican club announced on Wednesday.
Almada, a Uruguayan who took charge three and a half years ago, guided Pachuca to the CONCACAF Champions Cup title last year, securing their place in the upcoming Club World Cup.
Under his leadership, Pachuca also competed in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in December, where they fell to Real Madrid.
In a statement, the club confirmed that Almada gave an emotional farewell to players, staff, and directors, though no specific reason was provided for his departure.
Earlier this year, FIFA ruled that both Pachuca and fellow Liga MX side Club León did not meet the criteria for multi-club ownership, resulting in León’s exclusion from the Club World Cup. The Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld that decision earlier this month.
Pachuca’s participation in the expanded 32-team Club World Cup, set to begin in the United States on June 14, remains unaffected.
