Cruz Azul dominate Vancouver Whitecaps to claim CONCACAF Champions Cup title

Cruz Azul stormed to a record-equalling seventh CONCACAF Champions Cup title with a commanding 5-0 win over Canada’s Vancouver Whitecaps in Sunday’s final at the Olympic Stadium.

The Mexican side wasted no time asserting their dominance, opening the scoring in the 8th minute when Carlos Rotondi squared the ball for captain Ignacio Rivero, who finished coolly in a one-on-one.

Lorenzo Faravelli doubled the lead 20 minutes later with a stunning strike that curled in off the far post after winning the ball back in midfield. Cruz Azul continued their first-half onslaught as Ángel Sepúlveda and Mateusz Bogusz each found the net before the break.

The Whitecaps, overwhelmed throughout, failed to register a single shot in the match. Sepúlveda added his second goal just five minutes into the second half with a powerful header, sealing an emphatic win.

With the victory, Cruz Azul now shares the record for most CONCACAF Champions Cup titles—seven—with fellow Mexican giants Club América.
