Maja Stark Claims Major Championship with Victory U.S. Women’s Open

Maja Stark claimed her first major title by winning the US Women’s Open at Erin Hills, Wisconsin, on June 1. The 25-year-old Swede shot an even-par 72 to finish seven-under 281, edging out world No. 1 Nelly Korda and Japan’s Rio Takeda by two shots.

Stark led by one stroke after 54 holes and stayed calm despite pressure, only checking the leaderboard late in the final round. She birdied key holes and held on despite tough conditions, crediting the course for demanding full focus.

Before this win, Stark had six Ladies European Tour victories and earned her LPGA Tour card in 2022. She is now the third Swedish woman to win the US Women’s Open, joining Liselotte Neumann and Annika Sorenstam.

Korda, seeking her third major, finished tied for second, while Takeda also impressed with a strong performance. Spain’s Julia Lopez Ramirez, who started the final round well, faltered with a triple bogey on the last hole.
