The French Open quarter-finals begin on Tuesday with top seed Aryna Sabalenka set to face China’s Zheng Qinwen—fresh off her gold medal win when Roland Garros hosted tennis at last year’s Paris Olympics.
Also headlining the day’s action are defending champions Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz, who will take on Elina Svitolina and Tommy Paul, respectively.
FEATURED WOMEN’S MATCH: ARYNA SABALENKA vs ZHENG QINWEN
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka has been in imperious form in Paris, reaching the quarter-finals without dropping a set. She powered past Amanda Anisimova in her last match, hitting 11 aces and handling early pressure with composure.
Now, she faces her toughest opponent yet—eighth seed Zheng Qinwen, who recently broke a six-match losing streak against the Belarusian with a straight-sets victory at the Italian Open, their first meeting on clay.
“In our early matches, I think I gave her too much respect,” Zheng admitted, as she heads into her first French Open quarter-final chasing a maiden Grand Slam title.
Sabalenka is anticipating a fierce contest: “She’s a great player. I’m expecting a real battle, and I’m really looking forward to this match. I want my revenge.”
