Djokovic and Murray Split After Six Months

by Sports Desk

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have parted ways just six months after joining forces, with the decision made by mutual agreement.

In preparation for the Australian Open, Djokovic—winner of a record 24 Grand Slam titles in men’s singles—appointed Murray as his coach last November. This was Murray’s first coaching experience after announcing that he plans to retire from professional tennis following the 2024 Paris Olympics. The three-time Grand Slam champion transitioned to coaching after an illustrious playing career.

Under Murray’s guidance, Djokovic reached the semifinals of this year’s Australian Open. However, the Serbian star was forced to withdraw after losing the first set due to a foot injury. The 37-year-old is experiencing a challenging season, having lost in the opening round in four of his last five tournaments. He also fell in the Miami Open final to 19-year-old Jakub Mensik.

Djokovic and Murray have shared a long-standing rivalry on the court, facing each other numerous times—including in seven Grand Slam finals. Reflecting on their time working together, Djokovic expressed his gratitude and enjoyment.

“Thank you, Coach Andy, for six months of hard work, joy, and support on and off the court. I truly enjoyed deepening our friendship during this time,” said Djokovic.

Murray also expressed his appreciation and well wishes for Djokovic. “Thank you, Novak, for the incredible opportunity to work together. I’m also grateful to your team for their dedication over the past six months. Wishing you all the best for the rest of the season,” said the British star.
