Yamal magic confirms Barcelona as champions

Barcelona have officially secured their 28th La Liga title, wrapping up the championship with two matches remaining in the season. The Catalan giants sealed the deal with a 2-0 win over Espanyol on Thursday night, following up on their crucial El Clásico victory over Real Madrid that had put them within touching distance, just two points away from the crown.

The night’s standout performer was 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, who scored one goal and assisted the other, underlining his growing influence in the squad. His goal in the 53rd minute, after a slick one-two with Dani Olmo and a composed finish past multiple defenders, broke the deadlock. In stoppage time, he set up Fermín López for Barcelona’s second goal, sealing the victory in style.

The match was intense from the outset, with both teams creating chances in a goalless first half. The second half saw Barcelona dominate, and Espanyol’s hopes were further dashed in the 80th minute when defender Leandro Cabrera received a straight red card for kicking the ball into Yamal’s midsection in frustration.

Down to ten men, Espanyol couldn’t mount a comeback, and López’s injury-time goal confirmed Barcelona’s league triumph.

With this win, Barcelona sit atop the table with 85 points from 36 matches, while rivals Real Madrid trail with 78 points from the same number of games. This La Liga victory adds to Barcelona’s domestic treble for the season, having already won the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey.

The title also marks a spectacular debut season for new head coach Hansi Flick, who has made an immediate impact in Spanish football. For Yamal, it’s been a breakout campaign—17 goals and 25 assists across all competitions, culminating in five trophies won for club and country at just 17 years old.

Even Real Madrid extended their congratulations to Barcelona on reclaiming the title, acknowledging their rival’s achievement in a hard-fought season.
