Jung’s RBI Single in Eighth Inning Lifts Rangers to 2-0 Win Over Blue Jays

by Sports Desk

Josh Jung delivered a clutch two-out single in the eighth inning to drive in pinch-runner Sam Haggerty and break a scoreless tie, helping the Texas Rangers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Texas added an insurance run when Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk overthrew third base while trying to pick off Wyatt Langford, allowing Langford to score from third.

Six Rangers pitchers combined to limit Toronto to just four hits. Luke Jackson (1-4) earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning, and Robert Garcia closed it out in the ninth for his third save in four chances.

Rangers starter Nathan Eovaldi was pulled after two innings as a precaution due to triceps fatigue. Eovaldi, who ranks third in the AL with a 1.56 ERA and a .185 opponent batting average, said he expects to make his next scheduled start next Tuesday. He threw 39 pitches over two scoreless innings, allowing leadoff doubles to Bo Bichette and George Springer.

Blue Jays starter Bowden Francis gave up three singles and a walk before being removed after allowing a leadoff single in the sixth. Chad Green (1-1) took the loss, surrendering the game’s first run in the eighth.

Both teams have struggled offensively this season. Texas entered the game last in the American League with 183 runs scored, while Toronto has managed just four runs over its past five games — their lowest total over such a span since August 1990.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. drew a walk in the fifth inning to extend his on-base streak to 27 games, the longest of his career and the current longest active streak in the majors.
