The IPL governing body has urgently changed the venue for the upcoming match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians due to heightened India-Pakistan tensions and concerns over player safety.
According to the original schedule, the match was set to take place this Sunday in Dharamshala, a city in Himachal Pradesh near the Jammu and Kashmir region. However, in light of the current situation, the match has been relocated to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The news was confirmed by The Times of India, citing Anil Patel of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), who stated, “Yes, the match between Mumbai and Punjab will now be held in Ahmedabad.”
Security concerns have escalated near Dharamshala and surrounding areas, prompting Indian authorities to suspend flight operations at nearby airports. As a result, the Mumbai Indians squad, including players like Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, were unable to travel to Dharamshala as planned and remained in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Thursday night’s scheduled match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals will still be held in Dharamshala. This is largely due to logistical constraints, as grounded flights have made it impossible for the teams and officials to relocate in time. Thus, the IPL had little choice but to proceed with the fixture at its originally planned venue.
