Jürgen Klopp has achieved his maiden victory at the helm of the German national team, guiding his side to a decisive 2-0 win against Serbia at Munich’s Allianz Arena on Thursday. This result marks a significant turning point for the squad, which had previously struggled to find momentum following a 1-1 stalemate with the Netherlands and a disappointing 0-1 loss to Greece. When asked about the standout elements of the match, the 59-year-old manager expressed complete satisfaction. “Everything! The opening stages, the middle part, the ending,” Klopp remarked. He praised the squad’s tactical discipline, noting that the players demonstrated exceptional positioning and the confidence to take calculated risks when regaining possession. Asked what he liked most in a post-match interview, Klopp responded. To have that courage and know that we can allow ourselves to be cheeky and take risks if we win the ball back together. Whether we can always manage that remains to be seen.
Klopp highlighted the collective effort of the team, emphasizing that their defensive line remained effective by maintaining a high press. “Without the ball, it was outstanding, and with the ball, we played wonderful football. That has to be our baseline. This game will go into my archive as the next step in our development. We are learning under pressure,” he added. Everyone was there in our pressing moments. The last line defended really well by pushing up,” Klopp said.
Looking ahead, Germany aims to capitalize on this victory as they prepare for a critical UEFA Nations League encounter. The team is scheduled to face Group A2 leaders Greece in a return fixture in Thessaloniki this Sunday, seeking to redeem their earlier defeat.
