New Zealand’s cricket squad has faced another injury setback ahead of the sold-out fourth T20I match at Eden Park. Pacer Lockie Ferguson has been officially ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing tri-series against India after suffering a low-grade tear to his right calf. Medical scans confirmed the injury following discomfort he experienced during the second T20I at Hagley Oval. He is expected to undergo approximately one week of rehabilitation before he can return to competitive cricket.

In response to the vacancy, team management has called up Matt Fisher to join the squad. Head coach Rob Walter expressed sympathy for both players, noting the frustration of missing international matches due to physical issues. “We’re gutted for Lockie and Matt,” Walter stated, acknowledging that injuries remain a frequent challenge in international cricket. He emphasized that despite the disappointment, there is optimism regarding their recovery timelines for future fixtures.

The team is also managing the status of Matt Henry, who sustained a low-grade tear to his right quadricep during the same second T20I match. Henry requires one to two weeks of recovery, though officials mentioned he was already scheduled to sit out the remaining T20Is to prioritize his fitness for the upcoming summer ODI schedule. Coaches remain hopeful he will be available for that series. Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson continues his planned workload management program, remaining in Wellington to participate in Canterbury’s Ford Trophy match this Saturday before rejoining the national squad on Monday.

With India currently holding an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series, the fourth match is scheduled for Friday at Auckland’s Eden Park. While the series result is already determined, the focus for the New Zealand camp remains on player availability and strategic preparation for the forthcoming one-day matches.
