Mumbai Indians have officially appointed 46-year-old Luke Williams as the head coach for their women’s side ahead of the 2027 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. Williams steps into the role following the departure of Lisa Keightley, who managed the team for a single season after taking the reins from Charlotte Edwards.
Williams brings an extensive coaching resume to the franchise, most notably guiding Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a WPL title in 2024. His background includes leading the Adelaide Strikers to a maiden Women’s Big Bash League title in 2022-23 and two runner-up finishes. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach for the Southern Brave during their victorious 2023 campaign in The Hundred and has held a similar assistant role with the England Women’s team since 2025.
The appointment marks a pivotal shift for the two-time WPL champions, who struggled through a disappointing 2026 campaign under captain Harmanpreet Kaur, winning only three games and finishing fourth.
