Cummins firmly rejected the notion that a lack of preparation contributed to the defeat. He emphasized that the team’s approach was consistent, stating that their preparation for the Bangladesh series matched the intensity applied to Ashes Tests. While acknowledging the importance of post-series reviews, he insisted that the squad felt physically and mentally well-prepared heading into the matches.
Attributing the loss primarily to subpar on-field performance, Cummins candidly admitted that Australia failed to reach its potential. He praised the opponents, noting that Bangladesh played exceptionally well and effectively shut down any chances for Australia to recover or influence the momentum of the game.
Looking ahead, the Australian side is now shifting its focus toward a three-match Test series against South Africa. This upcoming tour marks the team’s first return to South African soil since the highly publicized 2018 ‘Sandpapergate’ scandal. Although Cummins acknowledged there might be a degree of lingering hostility from the hosts, he expressed confidence that the intensity of the atmosphere would remain below the level typically seen during the Ashes.
