As part of the promotional activities for the upcoming SAFF Championship, scheduled for November 5-17 at the National Stadium in Dhaka, a special exhibition match was held this afternoon. The encounter featured members of the 2003 SAFF championship-winning squad competing against the gold medal-winning team from the 2010 SA Games. In a spirited 60-minute match, the 2010 SA Games winners secured a 2-1 victory over the 2003 SAFF champions.
The event transformed the National Stadium into a reunion hub for former stars, evoking fond memories of past sporting triumphs. State Minister for Youth and Sports, Md. Aminul Haque, participated for both sides, having been a pivotal member of both historic squads. Nasirul Islam Nasir and Mithun Chowdhury scored for the SA Games winners, while Alfaz Ahmed netted the lone goal for the SAFF champions. During the break, the players observed a minute of silence to honor their former coach, the late George Kottan, who passed away on September 25, 2023.
