India captain Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the opening day of the three-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka XI at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo, which began on August 7. In his absence, KL Rahul has taken over the captaincy duties.
The BCCI confirmed that Gill sustained an impact injury to his right ring finger during training on Thursday. His absence from the first day is a precautionary measure, and he remains under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. India is scheduled to play two Tests against Sri Lanka, with the series opener starting on August 15 in Galle, followed by the second match in Colombo on August 23.
The second fixture will be held in Colombo from August 23.
