Indian men’s cricket team physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain has officially submitted his resignation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Currently stationed in New Delhi with the squad for the upcoming three-match Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan starting September 13, Jain is now serving a mandatory three-month notice period while awaiting formal release from the board.
Jain, who is based in Chennai, originally joined the national setup in June 2022 during Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach, having previously served with the Kolkata Knight Riders. He was appointed to succeed Nitin Patel, who transitioned to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru before eventually moving to the Mumbai Indians. According to insiders, Jain’s decision to step down is driven by the demanding travel schedule of the international circuit, as he wishes to prioritize time with his young family.
While the BCCI has yet to issue an official statement regarding his departure, the timeline suggests that the tour of New Zealand, concluding in early December, could serve as his final assignment unless the board grants an earlier release. The transition comes amidst a broader period of change for the Indian support staff; notably, long-serving fielding coach T Dilip recently concluded his tenure following the tour of the UK, and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has also departed to join the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The resignation marks another significant shift in the team’s backroom personnel. Although he has expressed appreciation for his time with the national team, the physical and logistical toll of constant travel has necessitated this career move. The board is expected to manage the transition period carefully to ensure continuity for the players as they navigate a busy international calendar.
