European football associations may still boycott major competitions, including the World Cup, after Uefa declared that Fifa’s defence of its president Gianni Infantino “changes nothing.” This response followed a Fifa executive meeting in Morocco on Wednesday, where Infantino issued an apology regarding the controversial Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal.
Despite the plan being aborted, Uefa stated that its conditions for reconciliation remain unmet. The governing body clarified its requirements in a formal statement: “First, the proposals to sell off the major competitions had to be withdrawn and secondly, assurances have to be made that such attempts to disfigure the game in this way will never be made again. These conditions have not been met.”
The English FA has formally withdrawn its support for Infantino due to the plan to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. Uefa, which has already lost confidence in the president, previously condemned the FFE initiative as a “shabby, back room, opaque deal.”
