Lionel Messi is currently mourning the loss of his father, Jorge, a profound personal tragedy that has drawn an outpouring of support from his long-time teammates. Among those stepping forward to stand by the Argentine captain is Leandro Paredes, the Boca Juniors midfielder, who is making arrangements to travel to Rosario to attend the funeral services.
Paredes addressed the media following Boca Juniors’ 1-1 draw against Velez Sarsfield at Parque Patricios. During the briefing, he expressed his deepest condolences to Messi and emphasized the collective support of the national team squad. He noted that he has not yet been able to speak directly with the captain, as Messi is currently traveling from Miami to his hometown of Rosario to lay his father to rest.
Regarding the communication, Paredes remarked, “I have not been able to speak with him. I know he is in the middle of a journey. We want to be there for him, and we are waiting for his arrival so he knows we are by his side.” The midfielder underscored that the bond between the players is strong, and they view this loss as a shared grief given the immense importance Messi holds within their group.
Paredes is currently coordinating with other national team colleagues to finalize their travel plans to Rosario. He stated, “I am going to talk to some of my teammates now to decide whether we leave immediately or wait until tomorrow afternoon.” While the funeral is intended to be a private family affair, the deep respect and affection for the Messi family have already drawn numerous supporters to Rosario to pay their respects to the legendary player and his family during this period of mourning.
