Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold was charged in Florida on Thursday, accused of acting as the primary conspirator in a violent plot to detain and assault three individuals. Authorities allege Arnold believed the victims were responsible for stealing luxury items and $100,000 in cash from him during an Airbnb stay in Largo earlier this year.
The incident occurred on February 4 at a Tampa apartment, where three men in their late teens were held at gunpoint, beaten, and pistol-whipped. Investigators later determined that the victims, one of whom was Arnold’s personal driver, had no connection to the February theft of the NFL player’s belongings, which included Rolex watches, Louis Vuitton goods, and a Bible.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw emphasized that fame does not exempt individuals from criminal accountability or the pursuit of justice. State Attorney Suzy Lopez echoed this sentiment, stating that disputes over missing property do not justify kidnapping or violence, and that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
Court records indicate that Arnold, 23, appeared via video for a hearing regarding charges of kidnapping, armed robbery, and conspiracy—offenses that carry potential life sentences. He surrendered to authorities on Wednesday and remains in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for Monday. Defense attorney R. Timothy Jansen stated that Arnold denies all allegations, while Denise White, CEO of EAG Sports Management, claimed there is no credible evidence against him, suggesting that cooperating witnesses may be motivated by the prospect of lighter sentences.
The investigation into the attack has led to charges against at least six other individuals. Two women involved have already pleaded guilty and are cooperating with authorities; Jasmine Randazzo, 19, was sentenced to four years in prison for her role in the kidnapping and robbery. Victims reported that Arnold’s associates lured them to the apartment, held them at gunpoint, and streamed the assault to Arnold, who allegedly issued orders via a group chat before arriving at the scene.
Prior to the attack, police in Largo had investigated the reported theft from Arnold’s Airbnb rental. Neighbors described frequent, loud parties at the property, and the host reported that 20 bags of trash were removed after the stay. Law enforcement officially closed that theft investigation on March 25 after Arnold and other victims indicated they no longer wished to pursue the matter.
Arnold, a first-round draft pick in 2024 out of the University of Alabama, recorded 31 tackles and one interception during his debut season with the Lions. Both the Detroit Lions organization and the NFL have acknowledged the arrest but have declined to provide further comment at this time. The report also notes that it was three days after Louis Vuitton bags and shoes, Rolex watches, a Bible, cash and more were reported stolen from Arnold at an Airbnb rental in Largo, about 20 miles (30 kilometers) west. The report also notes that with multiple people coming and going, according to a report released to The Associated Press, one neighbor said there were “pretty wild parties” there that seemed to last until dawn.
