Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele requires medical treatment for a right calf issue, the club confirmed ahead of their Champions League final against Arsenal later this month. The Ballon d’Or winner was substituted after half an hour during Sunday’s 2-1 Ligue 1 defeat against Paris FC “as a precaution after experiencing some discomfort in his right calf,” PSG stated.
The club added that Dembele will undergo treatment over the next few days to address the concern. Despite the substitution, the 29-year-old did not appear to be struggling when he left the field; he boarded the team bus after the match without any visible signs of limping.
Coach Luis Enrique addressed the situation during his post-match press conference, stating, “I think it is just due to fatigue.” He emphasized the importance of the upcoming schedule, noting, “It has been a tricky end to the season but now we have two weeks to prepare for the biggest match in our history.”
Dembele has navigated numerous physical setbacks throughout this campaign, specifically involving thigh and calf injuries. His recovery is being monitored alongside other squad members, as Achraf Hakimi, Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes, and Lucas Chevalier recently resumed individual training following their own injury absences.
PSG enters this final phase of the season having already secured a fifth consecutive French title, marking a record-extending 14th overall, following a 2-0 victory over Lens last Wednesday. Luis Enrique’s squad is set to face Arsenal in Budapest on May 30, where they will attempt to successfully defend the European crown they captured for the first time in club history last season.
