The Jamaica Kingsmen secured their second victory of the season on Tuesday, August 18, at Sabina Park, climbing off the bottom of the points table by defeating the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 51 runs. A pivotal 99-run partnership between Keemo Paul and captain Rovman Powell anchored the Kingsmen’s innings, allowing them to reach a total of 181 for 6 after a shaky start. The Patriots were subsequently bowled out for 130 in 18 overs, hampered by a disciplined bowling display led by Paul.
The Kingsmen faced early pressure after Saurabh Netravalkar delivered a double-wicket maiden, removing Kirk Mckenzie and Keacy Carty. Wanindu Hasaranga further tightened the screws by trapping Usman Khan LBW, leaving the Kingsmen at 42 for 3 after the Powerplay. When Reeza Hendricks fell in the eighth over, the team was struggling at 54 for 4, prompting Keemo Paul to enter the crease and shift the momentum. Paul immediately attacked, scoring 25 runs off 11 balls against Hasaranga and later smashing 22 runs off a single Netravalkar over to reach his half-century.
Paul’s explosive 65 off 36 balls, featuring five fours and five sixes, ended when Jason Holder dismissed him in the 18th over. Rovman Powell, who contributed 49 runs, fell just one short of his own fifty in the following over after hitting Obed McCoy for a six. Despite the middle-order collapse, the late-innings surge ensured the Kingsmen set a competitive target for the Patriots to chase.
The Patriots’ response faltered early as Andre Fletcher fell in the first over, followed by Johnson Charles in the fourth. Keemo Paul continued his impact by bowling Kyle Mayers in the fifth over, restricting the Patriots to 45 for 3 during the Powerplay. Although Nikhil Chaudhary offered some resistance, he was dismissed LBW by Vitel Lawes in the eighth over, and a mix-up led to Dasun Shanaka being run out, leaving the Patriots reeling at 64 for 5.
Kevin Wickham and Navin Bidaisee attempted to stabilize the innings with a 44-run stand, but the momentum shifted back to the Kingsmen when Bidaisee was retired out at the start of the 14th over. The decision proved costly, as the Patriots lost their final five wickets for just 22 runs. Keemo Paul returned in the 18th over to claim the last two wickets, finishing with impressive figures of 3-30 to seal the win. The report also notes that before an all-round bowling effort restricted the Patriots to 130, a 99-run stand between Rovman Powell and Keemo Paul steadied the innings after an early wobble and helped them post 181 for 6. The report also notes that wanindu Hasaranga then trapped Usman Khan LBW in the sixth over as the Kingsmen only managed 42 for 3 from the Powerplay. The report also notes that walking in with his team in trouble at 54 for 4, Keemo Paul produced a whirlwind innings to tilt the game back in his team’s favour. The report also notes that but the Kingsmen had done enough damage by then to finish with a competitive total. The report also notes that in reply, the Patriots too did not enjoy a good Powerplay.
