Aston Villa Secure Loan Agreement for West Ham Defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Aston Villa have finalized a deal to acquire West Ham United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 28-year-old DR Congo international, who has previously featured for Manchester United and Crystal Palace, is set to join the Midlands club on an initial loan arrangement that includes an obligation to make the transfer permanent at the conclusion of the season.

The defender has been granted clearance to travel to the Midlands to undergo a medical examination. While the specific financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed, West Ham had previously set an asking price of £25 million for the player. Wan-Bissaka has been absent from the Championship side’s opening two fixtures of the campaign while these transfer discussions were ongoing.

West Ham have experienced a significant summer of player movement, headlined by the departures of Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham for £85 million and Crysencio Summerville to Chelsea for £60 million. Conversely, the club successfully secured captain Jarrod Bowen on a new contract.

Aston Villa have also been active in the transfer market under Unai Emery, most notably facilitating the £117 million sale of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea. Despite these high-profile exits, the club currently maintains the lowest net spend in the Premier League, calculated at approximately £110 million when accounting for player sales.

To bolster their squad, Villa have recruited midfielders Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes, along with young centre-back Modou Keba Cisse. Additionally, they secured Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho on a loan deal that also features an obligation to buy.

Unai Emery’s side is preparing for their Premier League season opener against Brighton this Sunday at 14:00 BST. The team enters the new term with high expectations, having finished fourth in the league last season and secured the Europa League title, which guarantees them a place in the upcoming Champions League campaign. The report also notes that with the Hammers having previously asked interested clubs to pay a £25m fee, wan-Bissaka has been given permission to travel for a medical in the Midlands but the exact terms are not known.
